MEDITATION JOHN 5:40-47
2. He does not receive honour from any man. (V41)
3. Christ said that we do not have love in us (v42)
3. Christ came in his father's name, but still we receive him not. But if someone comes in his own name we receive them. (43)
4. We are unable to believe because we are seeking honour from one another and not only from God. (V44)
5. Christ need not need to accuse us... but Moses whom we trust will accuse us(v45)
6. Christ said if we believe in Moses then we will believe in him also because Moses has written about Christ. (V46)
7. But if we believe not in what he has written we will not be able to believe in Christ . (V47)
Life APPLICATION 1:
Seeking honor only from God:
1. Christ instructs us not seek the Glory of others but seek glory and honour only from God. (V44)
This is what Paul says,
Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
1 Thessalonians:2:6
But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
2 Corinthians:10:17
Paul writes also on pleasing men.
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
Galatians:1:10
For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.
We cannot believe if we seek the honor from man.
1. The WORD of GOD says we will not be able to believe in Christ if we seek honor from others.
How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
John:5:44
He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
John:7:18
If we are speaking about ourselves we are seeking our glory, but if we speaking of God we are seeking God's glory.
When can we not seek God's glory?
We cannot seek God's glory if we do not love him.
But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
John:5:42
B. We cannot seek God's glory if we do not receive him.
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
John:5:43
C. If we do not believe we cannot seek the Glory of God.
How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
John:5:44
LIFE APPLICATION 2:
Moses has written about Christ. But Jesus said we never believed him.
Let us look into some reference below
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
Hebrews:3:3
Christ is the one who build the house of God (church) and hence has more honor than the building ( Moses and all prophets).
The testimony of christ was more than of Moses but still we never listened to his testimony.
And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
Hebrews:3:5
Moses testifies a lot of things that are shadow of the heavenly things.
Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
Hebrews:8:5
But still his testimony was not revealed to men. So let us pray that our eyes will be opened to the truths in the word that CHRIST will be glorified in us.
